Baillou
Rugby Club was founded in 1967 by a group of mainly ex-patriot rugby
players as an off shoot of the then existing rugby clubs.

Over the years the club has evolved to
become almost 100% Bahamian and has won both the New Providence and
Bahamas Cups on many occasions.
Baillou Rugby Club is the current Bahamas Cup and Nassau Cup
champion.
Baillou has a strong membership of
approximately fifty persons. In the true spirit of the game we practice,
play and party to the extent that only true 'ruggers' can.

Golden Oldies
Sports Festival---‘Fun, Friendship and Fraternity.’
The Air New Zealand Golden Oldies
World Rugby Festival takes place every two years in very exotic
locations in the world. It is a week long festival which
welcomes teams from all parts of the globe-there are usually up
to 200 teams which participate. The teams include players aged
35 and over. In Vancouver in 1997, there was a 90 year old
player on the Japanese team! This festival provides enjoyment
and creates long term friendships with the focus being on rugby
rather than winning.
During ‘festival week’ each
team plays 3 games and the strongest competition often lies in
the rather novel approaches teams bring to each game.
Of course, The Bahamas team has
participated since 1993! The Bahamas Team won an award in New
Zealand in 1995 for the ‘ most entertaining team’. There is
an opening-day parade which takes all the participants through
the main city streets. The Bahamas team did the ‘Junkanoo’
thing. Everyone loved it!
