Baillou Rugby
Club won their fifth straight Bahamas Rugby Union Bahamas Cup on
Saturday, January 26th, with a convincing victory
over the Freeport Rugby Club.
The game was never close as
Baillou completely dominated in every facet of the game, as
Freeport could not handle the brute force of Baillou up front.
Freeport, who came to New
Providence with a legitimate chance to win the Bahamas Cup
Went home with nothing after a
40-0 loss at the Winton Rugby Pitch.
"I think we made our
statement last week. The mouth was brought on from Freeport; we
went up there and did what we had to do. It was a close game and
actually the score made it closer than it really was," said
Baillou player Kurt Monroe.
"Today the score reflected
how last week’s game was. We totally dominated up there and we
came and dominated here. We did not think we would win 40-0, but
I expected to win comfortably. Basically our forwards controlled
the game as they did in Freeport. We played a forwards game,
which is our strength. It feels just as good as the first,
second, third and fourth."
Baillou was able to control the
flow of the game and neutralize Freeport’s speed on the
perimeters and Freeport never had enough to get anything going.
Baillou scored three tries in the
first half and converted on all three for a 21-0 lead and the
consensus was the game was over by then because Freeport couldn’t
come back.
Munroe said even though they only
won 15-8 in Grand Bahama, they dominated the game up there and
they just carried that momentum into this game.
Baillou scored six tries and it
was a complete team effort as six different players scored,
starting with Garfield Morrison, then Gibson, Roussos, Maurice
Isaacs, Ricardo Moncur and Peter Lunn.
Coming into last week’s game
against Baillou, Freeport was undefeated, but just like over the
past four seasons they were not able to defeat Baillou.
