SPECTACULAR
HARBOUR ISLAND (OR ‘BRILAND’ IN BAHAMIAN LINGO)
I
had the opportunity to visit Harbour Island in February. I
invite you to follow me through this wonderful experience:
Departed
Nassau at Potter’s Cay dock at 8 a.m. SHARP on the ‘Bohengy’
(Bahamas Fast Ferries). My journey began.
The ferry is comfortable with air-conditioning,
bathrooms (very clean) and a snack bar.
You can also venture to the open upper deck and enjoy
the fresh tropical air. It takes approx. 1 ½ hours to get
to Harbour Island (with a short stop in Spanish Wells).
Staff on the boat was very friendly.
Bohengy
experience: 5 thumbs up!
Arriving
at Harbour Island dock I rented a golf cart, which is the
best means of transportation in Harbour Island since the
roads are quite narrow, and the island is small (about 1
mile by 3 miles). Cost is approx. US$40.-/day (I negotiated
and brought the price down to US$35.-/day. In the Bahamas
you never accept the first price given).
Golf
cart experience: 5 thumbs up
Off
I zoomed to check into my hotel----The
Coral Sands Resort---- perched on a hill overlooking
an unbelievable pink-sanded stretch of beach and crystal
blue Bahamian waters! Check-in
was fast and efficient.
The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful.
My room had an ocean view with a nice terrace. Décor
in the room was tropical.
Bathroom
was a little too small.
Lots of closet space.
Coffee maker, hair dryer, and clock radio/alarm
available in the room.
All rooms are non-smoking.
Had
breakfast a few times in the hotel.
Only complaint—not enough Bahamian delights on the
breakfast menu!
Lunch
on the ‘el fresco’ deck was wonderful! Many Bahamian
dishes to choose from.
Checkout
was fast and easy.
Coral
Sands Resort experience: 5 thumbs up
While
in Harbour Island I had dinner at the ‘Harbour
Lounge’, which
is located on the main street, Bay Street, along the Harbour.
The food was absolutely out of this world, staff extremely
friendly and warm and atmosphere excellent. A little pricey,
but worth it!!!
Harbour
Lounge experience: 5 thumbs up
I
felt like getting out to ‘jam’ with the local Brilanders
and dance a little and came across ‘Sea
Grapes Nightclub’. The
music was fantastic (the DJ was open to requests and kept
the club jumping!), everyone was friendly and I thoroughly
enjoyed myself.
Sea
Grapes Nightclub experience: 5 thumbs up
If
you are looking for those Island trinkets, souvenirs or
Bahamian sundresses, bathing suits, shirts, etc. Harbour
Island has many quaint shops with beautiful items to choose
from!
All
in all, I loved my Harbour Island experience.
Truly a place to relax and recharge your batteries. I
recommend all of you to visit this island AT LEAST once!!!
Ya
Mon!
