Dilly (Sapodilla) Crumble

  • 4 lb. Dillies
  • 1/2 c. white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. grated lemon rind

Peel dillies & slice thinly.  Fill pie plate generously.  Squeeze lemon juice over dillies & sprinkle with a mixture of white sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon & rind.   Cream butter & brown sugar together.  Add flour & beat until the mixture appears granular.  Spread over dilly.   Bake in 350 degree F. oven for 1 hour.  Allow to cool slightly, cut into wedges.  May be served with hard sauce.

Hard Sauce:

  • 1/2 box confectioners sugar

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. vanilla

  • 1/2 lb. butter

  • 1 egg

Beat butter & sugar together for 15 min. Add vanilla & egg & continue to beat until fluffy.
